January Blues

Well it seems the whole country is besieged with snow and rain and strange storms. We in Chicago had below Zero last week, then teens again, now 40 degrees for 2 days and will drop to 1 degree tomorrow. My daughter and family in Pine Mountain Club, CA are experiencing 10 inches or more of snow, now rain and winds. I don't remember any year with this much destructive storms all over the country. Here is Illinois, in Kankakee area, the river is overflowing for the first time anyone can remember because the bends are clogged with ice, and then the rain comes in and the homes are flooded. Some residents cannot get out of their homes. We in Aurora, IL are fine as far as the streets are concerned, but the cold and wind, Wow!! Well that's all for now.

August comes to an end

Well it has been a wonderful summer and especially August here in Illinois. Too, too much rain, but when it was not raining, the air and grass smelled fresh and green. I really enjoyed this summer. Instead of our usual summer trips, we instead help our daughter and son-in-law and grandkids to come here from sunny California. I hadn't seen her since last May of 2006 and also we traveled by car out there in 2005. Since they moved from Chicago area to California in April of 2006, they added 2 new babies to their brood, for a total of 4 little ones, 3 girls, ages 6, 4 and 2, and the new little boy, 5 months. It was great to see them all last week for 10 days. The house is lonely now that they have left and all the relatives too who came to visit and hug the kids. Thank God my 2 year old grandson lives nearby so I can hug him regularly. Also my second oldest daughter moved back here last week also from Denver with her husband, who is also our maintenance man. Well he actually is not our own maintenance man, but when my daughter met him, he was living in our 4 flat and doing our maintenance for us upon request. We are so glad they are back here and as soon as he gets a new job, I am sure he won't have time to help us, so I am making a list quickly for him before he is too busy. Of course, we pay him! What did you think? Being his mother-in-law now means free help?? No, not at all! My husband is his buddy and sees to it that he is well compensated and free steak dinners.

Yes it was a good summer!
